Good Afternoon, my name is Carissa Phillips. When I was asked to introduce our keynote speaker I didn’t hesitate to jump at the opportunity. It was a once in a lifetime chance that I couldn’t pass up because I believe one of the best gifts that anyone can offer to another person is the gift of kind words.  From the moment I began teaching Kindergarten at Aurora Elementary School, Laurie has been there for my family in ways that go above and beyond a normal work relationship. Anyone who knows Laurie knows that everything she does is from a pure and giving heart. She is also a woman that is full of God-given wisdom.

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom…the wisdom that comes from Heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”

 

When you take a look at Laurie’s life you know instantly that there is something different about her. She has a never ending ability to pour into others whether it’s through her actions, words, or random blessings (usually secretly delivered by Phil).  When students have the privilege to have her as their Kindergarten teacher, she sets the bar high. Every school year she leaves an impact on her students through Thursday tea parties and life lessons.

 

It’s inspiring to see her carry on the legacy of her Mom through her weekly tea parties. The lessons I’ve witnessed her pass on every year, are much more than reading, writing, and math. They are life lessons that these children will someday pass down for generations to come.  Laurie, the impact you’ve left on not only your students, but myself included, is one that makes me forever grateful for you in my life.
